# Transforming Indonesia’s Maritime Future: The Fisheries Vessel Modernization Program
The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has launched an ambitious strategic initiative aimed at revolutionizing the national capture fisheries sector. By implementing the Fisheries Vessel Modernization Program, the government intends to significantly boost fisherman productivity while simultaneously strengthening the infrastructure of Indonesia's maritime economy.
## Overview of the Modernization Initiative
Between 2026 and 2028, the government plans to construct 1,582 state-of-the-art fishing vessels. This phased development is designed to cater to various operational needs across the archipelago. The fleet will consist of:
* 1,000 vessels at 30 GT (Gross Tonnage).
* 557 vessels at 200 GT.
* 25 vessels at 500 GT.
These vessels will be equipped with specialized gear—including Pelagic Purse Seines, Gill Nets, Handlines, Bottom Longlines, Tuna Pole Lines, and dedicated transport units—tailored to the unique characteristics of local fishing grounds. Beyond fleet expansion, this initiative serves as a major catalyst for job creation and the socio-economic advancement of coastal communities.
## Workforce Requirements and Opportunities
To operate this massive new fleet, the KKP is seeking 20,094 qualified Fishing Vessel Crew members (AKP). The workforce will be divided into two primary categories:
* 8,676 Officers: Including Captains, Chief Engineers, Fishing Masters, Mates, and Marine Engineers.
* 11,418 Crew Members: Including Refrigeration Operators, Radio Operators, Oilmen, Bosuns, and Deckhands.
## General Eligibility Criteria
All prospective candidates must meet the following baseline requirements to be considered for the program:
1. Nationality: Must be an Indonesian Citizen.
2. Education: Minimum primary school (SD) education or equivalent; must demonstrate literacy in the Indonesian language.
3. Physical/Mental Health: Must be in good physical and mental health, with no physical disabilities, color blindness, or strabismus (verified by a licensed healthcare provider).
4. Character: Must provide a valid Police Clearance Certificate (SKCK).
5. Substance Policy: Must be drug-free, evidenced by a NAPZA clearance letter from a competent authority.
6. Administrative: Possess a Job Seeker Card (AK-1) from the local Manpower Office.
7. Certification: Hold a valid Level II Basic Safety Training for Fishing (BST-F) certificate.
8. Commitment: Willingness to undergo the entire selection process, accept deployment anywhere in Indonesia, and commit to a minimum one-year work contract.
## Specialized Role Qualifications
Candidates applying for technical and leadership positions must meet the following professional thresholds:
* Captains & Chief Engineers: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience and valid SKN or 60-mile SKK (Certificate of Competency) certification.
* Mates & Marine Engineers: Must hold valid SKN or 60-mile SKK certification. Candidates must have at least 24 months of sea service or be graduates/active cadets from maritime academies with at least an ANKAPIN/ATKAPIN Level II certificate.
* Technical Operators (Refrigeration, Oilman, Bosun): Minimum of 2 years of proven, relevant work experience in the specific position.
* Deckhands: Preference is given to those holding a valid BST-F Level II certificate and those with prior maritime work experience.
## Required Administrative Documentation
Interested applicants must prepare the following documents to complete their application:
* Clear photocopies of KTP (ID card) and Family Card (KK).
* Two recent 4x6 color photographs with a red background.
* Copies of educational diplomas or certificates of completion.
* Copies of all relevant professional maritime certifications and seaman books.
* The original or certified copy of the Job Seeker Card (AK-1).
* Official NAPZA clearance and valid SKCK.
